What it is
The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a federally funded program designed to help eligible low-income Ohioans meet the high cost of home heating. If you qualify, you receive a one-time benefit applied as a credit to your energy bill by your utility company or fuel vendor.
The amount depends on federal funding levels, how many people live with you, your total household income, and the primary fuel you use to heat your home.
Key things to know
- The regular program runs November 1 through March 31 each winter.
- If you have a shut-off notice, you can apply for Emergency HEAP — don’t wait, call us the day the notice arrives.
- HEAP works alongside PIPP and the Electric Partnership Program; many households qualify for all three.
