Healthy Start — Children's Health Insurance (CHIP)

Free health insurance for children up to age 19 in families with income up to about 206% of the federal poverty level.

Information last reviewed July 2026

What it is

Healthy Start (Ohio’s CHIP program) is free health insurance for children of low- to moderate-income families — with a much higher income limit than adult Medicaid, so many working families qualify even when the parents don’t.

Covered services include:

  • Well-child checkups and immunizations
  • Dental care and treatment
  • Vision care and glasses
  • Hospitalization and emergency care
  • Prescription medicine

How Gesher helps

Children’s coverage is often the easiest win in a family’s benefits picture — one application, and every child under 19 can be covered. We’ll screen the whole household at once and handle the yearly renewals so coverage never lapses.
