Food Assistance Program

The Food Assistance Program helps people buy food for their family. One receives an Ohio Direction Benefit Card or cash payment, which can be used at over 900 stores in Cuyahoga County. The amount of Food Assistance Benefits received depends on the assistance group composition. Assistance groups are people who live together and fix and eat their meals together. An assistance group can be one person or one family or a group of people who are not of the same family.

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) provides Federal grants to States for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk. The client receives monthly coupons which can be redeemed for food at participation stores. One needs to recertify every 6 months and pick up coupons every 3 months.
